Victoria’s $75 million boost for regional hospital upgrades

The Victorian Government is expanding its commitment to regional healthcare with additional funding for hospital upgrades.

Victoria’s Minister for Health Infrastructure Mary-Anne Thomas visited Heathcote Health today to announce the opening of the ninth round of the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund (RHIF) on 22 November 2024, inviting regional health services to apply for a share of $75 million in funding.

“RHIF is all about giving our regional health services the best facilities and the latest equipment to deliver safer, more efficient care in every corner of the state,” said Minister Thomas.

With total funding now reaching $790 million, the RHIF supports a wide range of vital projects, including theatre refurbishments, new waiting areas, hospital bed expansions, accessible pathways, additional consulting rooms and equipment upgrades.

Heathcote Health received more than $6.5 million in the last round to deliver its new Community Health Hub. This facility will house the Community Services Program and serve as a one-stop shop for local community services. Features will include private clinical rooms, therapy spaces, a training area, and accommodation for staff and students. This follows an earlier grant of over $2.6 million in the fifth round of the RHIF to upgrade the hospital’s kitchen and laundry facilities.

These upgrades are essential in ensuring that regional health services can attract and retain skilled local workforces, while continuing to create jobs through construction projects across the state.

Since its launch in 2016, the RHIF has funded over 675 projects, making it the largest program of its kind in Victoria.

Applications for the ninth round of funding close on 10 January 2025. Community health services and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations are encouraged to apply.
