Smarter, safer propping solutions with Quadshore

Coates and Monash University have developed Quadshore, a lightweight, heavy-duty propping system. (Image: Coates)

Lightweight, high-strength and designed for efficiency, Quadshore is redefining propping solutions in the construction industry.

Propping is an essential but often overlooked component of construction and infrastructure projects. Traditional propping systems, while effective, come with drawbacks: heavy materials, complex assembly, high labour costs, and inefficiencies in both handling and transport.

In response to these concerns, Coates – in collaboration with Monash University – developed Quadshore, a lightweight yet heavy-duty propping system engineered to improve efficiency, safety and sustainability.

Designed for strength and speed

The system is available in two variants: Quadshore 150, a high-capacity solution for demanding applications, and Quadshore 50, a medium-duty option that provides versatile support. Both variants feature patented Twistlock boltless connections, eliminating the need for consumable bolts and reducing installation and dismantling times.

Compared to traditional propping solutions, Quadshore 150 is 60 per cent faster to assemble, while Quadshore 50 offers a 40 per cent time reduction – translating to labour cost savings.

Modularity is a core advantage of the Quadshore system. Whether deployed as a single prop or a four-legged tower system, it can be adapted to suit a wide range of temporary works, from bridge propping to high-rise falsework. Its high strength-to-weight ratio allows for reduced material use without compromising load-bearing capacity. In fact, Quadshore 150 supports up to 172 tonnes – 1.7 times more than conventional systems.

To further enhance flexibility, Quadshore also supports a range of specialised attachments, including needle beam fixing clamps, multi-angle brackets and jacks – ensuring a tailored solution for any project requirement.

Lighter, safer, more sustainable

The construction industry faces increasing pressure to improve workplace safety while reducing its environmental footprint. Heavy, bolted propping systems require manual handling and pose risks associated with lifting and alignment. Steel production, meanwhile, is one of the largest industrial sources of carbon emissions.

Quadshore’s lightweight high-strength steel composition not only improves transport and handling but also reduces the need for cranes and other heavy machinery – a win for safety on any worksite. Additionally, the simplicity of the system makes it easier and safer for end users to make adjustments as required.

From a sustainability perspective, Quadshore reduces material usage, transport emissions and waste. Its boltless design eliminates the need for disposable components, making it a durable and environmentally responsible solution.

Engineering innovation for the real world

Quadshore is already proving its worth across a variety of infrastructure and construction projects. Coates provides free BIM models in the widely used Revit format, and engineers and contractors are benefitting from faster project turnaround times, reduced site congestion and lower overall costs – all while maintaining compliance with Australian safety standards.

Quadshore is a smart, efficient approach to temporary propping – delivering strength without excess weight, speed without complexity, and safety without compromise.
