Redevelopment works are beginning to wrap up on the $135 million Casey Hospital upgrade, with a team of abseilers installing external signage on a new tower.
Casey Hospital, located in Melbourne’s south-east, has been progressively expanding over the past 15 years to keep up with the rapidly growing local community.
“Casey Hospital looks after one of our most rapidly-growing communities and this massive expansion will ensure they have the facilities they need to continue providing the best possible care,” said Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos.
“The hospital will be able to treat critically ill patients on site, undertake more surgeries and procedures and support thousands more births – which are services we know this community needs.”

The redevelopment consists of 128 new inpatient beds and the hospital’s first intensive care unit in a newly built clinical tower. Six new operating theatres, a new day surgery unit, an upgraded pharmacy, pathology, and back-of-house areas, along with expanded parking facilities are also included in the upgrade works.
By building an intensive care unit, it will mean Casey Hospital can treat critically ill patients who present through the emergency department, instead of sending them to other Monash Health hospitals.
The full expansion includes an additional 160 beds, which enables the hospital to treat an extra 25,800 patients, perform an extra 8000 surgeries and procedures and support an extra 1,300 births every year.
Installing the signage marks the completion of most of the services in the tower, with the final stage, a 12-bed day surgery unit, due for completion in early 2020.
“This is all part of our plan to ensure those living in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs have access to world-class health-care now and into the future,” said Member for Narre Warren, Gary Maas.
