Around 2000 Victorian construction jobs are set to be created by the recently approved $500 million redevelopment at Westfield Doncaster.
The upgrade plans to provide an additional 43,000 square metres of retail and 18,000 square metres of commercial office space, through the construction of a gateway building up to 14 storeys, positioned above a two-level podium of retail space.
It will be positioned in the site’s north-west sector and will include an expended bus interchange, improved car and pedestrian access and additional car parking.
Feedback from the community on the proposed development plans has been taken on board, following the public viewing of development plans in December and January.
The approval allows the owners to lodge a Planning Permit with the Manningham City Council, ensuring the communities needs are included in the development.

Victorian Planning Minister Richard Wynne approved the plans, which are set to create around 2900 new full and part time jobs at the centre upon completion.
“Melbourne is already the nation’s retail capital and this major expansion will cement its reputation for the years to come,” Wynne said.
“This project will create thousands of jobs, draw thousands of shoppers from across the world, and will be a major boost to Victoria’s economy.”
Retail is one of Victoria’s largest employers, providing more than 300,000 jobs across Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Australian Bureau of Statistics found Victorians spent $78.9 billion on retail sales over the last year.
Member for Eastern Metropolitan Shaun Leane said the expansion would create thousands of local jobs at the local shopping districts.
“We’ve listened to community feedback on this development and now we’re making sure it gets underway,” Leane said.
Scentre Group Director Development and Asset Management Stewart White said the approved masterplan supports the company’s long0term vision for the future growth and expansion of Westfield Doncaster as one of Melbourne’s premier destinations.
“This will be an exciting next chapter for the centre which will mark its 50th year of operation soon. The masterplan will allow us to realise the full potential of the site and our aspirations to cement Westfield Doncaster as a true living centre catering to the growing Doncaster Hill community and surrounds,” White said.
“We are looking forward to providing additional details when we lodge our planning permit for the first stage of the redevelopment, which – in line with local customer and community feedback – will be focused on increasing high-end specialty fashion, dining and entertainment, as well as our health and wellness offering.
“In the meantime, we are moving ahead with our upgrade of the dining precinct adjacent to the cinemas at Westfield Doncaster and expect to commence construction works in the coming months.”
