Sydney North West Metro open date announced

The Sydney North West Metro will open to customers on Sunday 26 May and aims to provide a turn up and go rail service from Rouse Hill to Chatswood.

At full operation, trains will run every four minutes in each direction at peak times on the line, with the ability to run up to every two minutes in the future. During the initial six weeks, trains will run every five minutes to allow the new system to ramp up to full frequency.

The line includes 13 stations between Tallawong and Chatswood with 4000 commuter carparks. The stations are also fully accessible, with lifts and level access between platform and train.

Final commissioning of driverless trains is currently underway, with more than 180,000 kilometres of testing already completed. Testing has included high speed tests on the skytrain, calibrating the system with the platform screen doors and loading one train with more than 100 1000-litre tanks of water to simulate customer loads.

The platform screen doors aim to keep people and objects such as prams away from the tracks and allow trains to get in and out of stations faster.
