A $1.3 billion education capital works program will support hundreds of South Australian construction jobs over the next 18 months as part of the state’s COVID-19 economic recovery.

Concept designs have been released on two high school upgrade projects worth around $75 million.

The Norwood Morialta High School upgrade aims to increase the capacity of its Parade campus to 1700 students to co-locate all year levels on one site. The $51.95 million upgrade includes the construction of a three-storey middle school building with a rooftop play space, a new two-storey building for the school’s technical and specialist precinct, improved gym facilities, a new façade entry statement and new landscaping, car parks and sports courts.

Designs for the $23 million Adelaide High School upgrade feature a new “hive” building with general and specialist learning areas, teacher preparation areas, storage, amenities, a canteen café and outdoor learning areas.

SA MLC Rob Lucas said construction on the major school upgrades will begin in coming months to support jobs and local industry at a critical time in the state’s economic recovery.
