Multiplex has completed construction on a 14-metre-long sky bridge, linking the Sapphire By The Gardens and Shangri-La Hotel.
Delivering the bridge, which is 46-storeys above Melbourne’s CBD, took exceptional planning and management, according to Senior Project Coordinator Liam Timms.
“A modular approach was chosen for the sky bridge construction to minimise working at heights,” Timms said.
“Three main steel modules and four corner modules – over 64 tonnes of steel – were firstly installed to form the bridge’s floor. A composite link slab could then be poured between the towers, consisting of 204 tonnes of concrete and over 31 tonnes of reo.

“This allowed the roof steel to be installed, with two steel modules pre-clad off-site and then carefully lifted into position. The remaining roof steel is currently being stick built on site and will total over 50 tonnes once complete.”
By The Gardens will be home to a luxury residential tower and an international five-star hotel.
Construction is scheduled to complete in 2022.
