Early construction works are now underway at level crossing removal projects at Manchester Road, Mooroolbark and Maroondah Highway in Lilydale, Victoria.

Site set up has begun along with preparation for service relocation and vegetation removal.

Early works are expected to continue for several months to make way for major construction of the level crossing towards the end of 2020.

From 6 May 2020, a test pile will be constructed in a small section of the western commuter car park at Lilydale station. This will enable crews to dig into the ground, filling the hole with concrete to create strong foundations for the bridge structures required.

The test pile will help engineers to determine how deep the foundations will need to be for the rail bridge over Maroondah Highway. Works on this are expected to be complete in June.

There will be a closure of the pedestrian and cyclist path behind the Mooroolbark Community Centre, leading to Ellen Road and Croydondale drive from early May until 2022.

New stations will be built at Mooroolbark and Lilydale as part of the project. A multi deck car park will also be built at Mooroolbark which will help to double commuter car parking to 900 spaces.
