Construction has begun on a $70 million community retail hub, the Kalkallo Town Centre, in Melbourne’s Northern growth corridor.

The 8000 square metre centre will provide amenity to the Cloverton Estate in the initial stages of the Lockerbie North Precinct.

Oreana Property has appointed FOURSQ Construction as the building contractor for the major development. Architecture firms Clarke Hopkins Clarke and i2C Architects designed the Kalkallo Town Centre.

The inaugural project between Oreana Property and FOURSQ is expected to create more than 200 new jobs for Victorians and is scheduled to reach practical completion in early 2023.

Located on the newly built Cloverton Boulevard, at the intersection of Toyon Road, the retail hub will feature a Woolworth’s supermarket, 148-place childcare centre station, medical centre, discount pharmacy and food and beverage offerings.

Oreana Group Managing Director and Co-Founder, Tony Sass, said the developer is focused on delivering infrastructure that meets specific community needs.

“…our specialist development team conducts extensive assessment programs to identify these, like we’ve done in Kalkallo,” he said.

“Kalkallo Town Centre will be an important civic asset for the community in this major growth area and will encourage people to come together and interact in a tailored, community hub environment.

“We’re looking forward to working with FOURSQ Construction to deliver this commercial development and ultimately help shape a vibrant, well-equipped community.”

FOURSQ Construction Director, Brendan Canavan, said the company has a strong history in delivering retail projects across Victoria.

“This will be our first build with Oreana Property and our largest retail project to date, so it marks a really important milestone,” Canavan said.

“We are excited to embark on this new relationship with Oreana and deliver this vital infrastructure for the local community.”
