Major works are now underway to deliver one of the largest upgrades to Sydney’s Central Station in decades, including new Sydney Metro platforms deep underground and the landmark Central Walk.

A temporary railways station platform has been built in three weeks, thanks to a construction team of more than 120 people working around the clock.

Platform 13 and most of platform 12 has been demolished by a six-tonne excavator before Christmas.

More than 1500 tonnes of concrete and 119 tonnes of steel reinforcement were brought in to build a temporary platform in just 23 days.

The temporary platform allows the Sydney Metro to be built 27 metres underground without disrupting normal train operations above.

Central Walk is expected to be completed in 2022 and will open to customers while construction works continue.
