SA infrastructure gets $415M federal funding boost

Four new Queensland projects worth more than $2 billion combined have declared as Priority Projects by Infrastructure Australia.

The Federal Government will invest $415 million into South Australian infrastructure projects to reduce congestion and improve road safety.

The funding package includes the acceleration of more than $328 million in federal funding across six projects.

Around $114 million will be contributed to the $143 million SA Rural Roads Safety Package, with funding to flow immediately and over the next two financial years to enable the commencement of works. Previously, these funds were being allocated beyond 2021-22.

A further $86.75 million in funding will be brought forward, with the Federal bringing forward $69.4 million and the SA Government bringing forward $17.35 million.

Further projects benefitting from the funding package include the $92 million Victor Harbour Road Duplication, which will see $75 million brought forward, and $50 million for the Horrocks Highway Corridor.

Additional funding has been allocated to the Darlington Upgrade, which has seen an increase in the total cost of the project increasing from $667 million to $754.5 million. Both governments have increased spending to account for this.

Similarly, another $16 million has been allocated for the Flinders Link project, which has also seen project cost increases.

“By bringing forward these important road projects we will drive jobs, boost the economy and make roads safer, while reducing travel times so people can be with their families instead of being stuck in traffic,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.

“In South Australia we will provide additional funding for the Darlington Upgrade and Flinders Link Projects as part of Adelaide’s North-South Corridor, while bringing forward funding for the Eyre Highway and Eyre Peninsula and Horrocks Highway corridors, Victor Harbor Road duplication and a major rural roads upgrade.”

South Australian Premier Steven Marshall said the announcement builds on the state’s $11.9 billion pipeline of infrastructure works over the next four years.
