New Building Industry Consultative Council chair appointed

The Victorian Government has appointed Rebecca Casson, Chief Executive Officer of Master Builders Victoria, as Chair of the Building Industry Consultative Council (BICC).

She is the first woman to be appointed to lead the council.

The BICC was established in 2001 as a high-level advisory council to the Minister for Industrial Relations. BICC advises the minister on economic and industrial relations issues affecting the building and construction industry.

BICC engages with government agencies about the skill requirements and training needs of the building and construction industry and worked with the Government to develop the Building Equality Policy launched in December last year.

As head of Master Builders Victoria, played an important leadership role in the sector’s positive and collaborative response to COVID-19.

“Rebecca Casson will perform a crucial role as Chair of the Building Industry Consultative Council – her insight and leadership will be vital as the sector moves forward,” Industrial Relations Minister Tim Pallas said.

“As a government we’re delivering diversity and gender equality in construction with the Building Equality Policy in place and now, a woman will lead the BICC.”

Casson said she is proud to be the first woman appointed to chair the Building Industry Consultative Council.

“This is a critical time for Victoria’s building and construction industry as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is vital that our sector continues to work with the Victorian Government to lead our state’s recovery,” she said.

” I look forward to working with the BICC and the Government to see more women employed in the building and construction industry.”
