Max Cranes named finalist for 2018 Regional Showcase award

Max Cranes has been announced as a finalist for the 2018 Regional Showcase – which provides an opportunity to celebrate and promote the achievements of individuals, groups and organisations that have made significant contributions to regional South Australia – and is now in the running to pick up the coveted Business Award.

Throughout the month of August, more than 5,500 people voted for their favourite success stories from around the state, and Max Cranes’ recent acquisition of the largest telescopic crane in the southern hemisphere earned the company its spot as a finalist.

This year’s Regional Showcase, which is presented by Brand SA and supported by major partner Primary Industries and Regions SA, highlighted more than 100 regional success stories on Brand SA News.

Sarah Joyce, Max Cranes commercial manager, said the company was proud to be recognised alongside 14 other amazing finalists.

“This is Max Cranes first year of being a member of Brand SA and we have found them to be fantastic advocates for not only South Australian businesses, but those businesses that are based and originated in the regions,” Joyce said.

“We are proud to be putting the Upper Spencer Gulf on the map as the home of the largest all-terrain crane in the southern hemisphere.”

The $10 million Liebherr telescopic mobile crane has a capacity of 1,200 tonnes and will allow the Upper Spencer Gulf business to expand its capabilities in construction and maintenance of wind towers across the country. It will also be used for construction and heavy lifting activities throughout markets that require specialist heavy lifting.

The Federal government supported the acquisition of the new crane – planned to be in operation in November 2018 – through its Regional Jobs and Investment Package.

According to Max Cranes managing director Mark Kuhn, the specialised piece of equipment is the strongest of its kind on the market and has the longest telescopic boom in the world at 100m.

“The business has spent a lot of time on the selection of the best type of crane to bring into the country that will be a problem-solver to all market sectors,” Kuhn continued.

“It has a number of benefits that will set the business apart from the rest. The crane, albeit huge, is efficient and economical in its ability to mobilise/demobilise to project sites and is very agile and flexible on site.

“We’re looking to further bolster our position in the Upper Spencer Gulf region with the ever-expanding renewable markets, the commitment of GFG Alliance to the Whyalla Steelworks, and the expansion of surrounding mining and infrastructure projects within the region.”
