DP World Australia cranes make their way into Fremantle Port

Five giant cranes from DP World Australia, among the biggest of their kind in the world, have made their way to Fremantle Port as part of an upgrade to Australia’s maritime freight infrastructure.

The container cranes, worth a total of $75 million, arrived at Fremantle Inner Harbour on ship Zhen Hua 24. Each crane is worth $15 million and stands 50m high, weighs 1,200 tonnes, and can lift 75 tonnes.

The cranes will be servicing the largest vessels in Australia and will help to cope with the increasing amount of imports coming into the country via containers. They will be shipped around Australia, with one going to Fremantle, one in Brisbane, one in Melbourne and two in Sydney.

A DP World spokesman said the crane would allow Fremantle to service extra-large vessels carrying 10,000 plus containers of goods.

“These new cranes mean every DP World Australia terminal will be able to work more efficiently and with larger vessels, which will boost productivity, benefitting consumers and exporters,” the spokesman said.

“The new cranes are part of more than $180 million in infrastructure investment by DP World Australia across the nation, in the past 12 months.”
