Crane supply company 600 Cranes has assisted in the installation of safety barriers on Melbourne’s West Gate Bridge, with the company supplying a Tadano ZE290 truck-mounted crane to complete the John Holland-led project.
The West Gate Bridge, spanning 2.6km and five lanes in each direction across the Yarra River, is one of the busiest bridges in Australia. The bridge connects the heart of Melbourne with the city’s western suburbs and has undergone numerous strengthening and maintenance construction projects over its nearly 50-year history.
The bridge recently underwent the installation of new safety barriers along its edges, a difficult task that required state-of-the-art safety systems and specialised tools to ensure project success.
The truck-mounted Tadano ZE290 crane provided was designed for use on uneven terrain and for situations that require significant amounts of strain – such as fitting the barriers alongside the West Gate Bridge, which required operation in a tight space and detailed safety checks to prevent collapse.
The installation of safety barriers along the West Gate Bridge has been an important undertaking in the structure’s history. 600 Cranes also provided other cranes for use on the bridge and is dedicated to continuing their service for one of Australia’s most important road corridors.
