Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) has selected McConnell Dowell for a design and construct contract for the delivery of a waste line replacement at Parsons Point Alumina Refinery in Gladstone.
The project’s scope will include the design of the new waste line and the augmentation design of the support structure and removal of the existing pipeline. It will also see McConnell Dowell augmenting the support structures, including around 1400 piles within tidal and marine zones and installing 8.8 kilometres of SCH 60 above ground steel pipeline.
The company hopes the contract with QAL will become a longstanding partnership and continue the relationship with Rio Tinto.
McConnell Dowell said in a statement that its pipeline construction capability, expertise in working in marine environments, and commitment to maximising local participation would provide a strong foundation for project success.
