Mammoet signs multi-year installation services contract with Goldwind Australia

Dutch heavy-lifting and transport company Mammoet has signed a multi-year framework deal to provide services to Goldwind Australia’s significant pipeline of wind farm projects in Australia.

The subsidiary of wind turbine maker Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Tech selected Mammoet for the contract due to its ability to provide transport, lifting and installation services at the needed scale.

Goldwind have started construction work on the 530MW Stockyard Hill facility located in western Victoria, which is thought to be the largest wind farm in the country and will comprise of 149 Goldwind turbines.

Mammoet has already set up a project team in Melbourne to commence operations, which will kick off with the handling of 253 Goldwind wind turbine generators (WTGs) in Victoria. It will begin offloading the first WTGs for Stockyard Hill early next month and will provide offloading and pre-assembly services, as well as full mechanical and electrical completion works.

“This is a major step for Mammoet,” said Vincent Vingerhoeds, Mammoet’s business development manager for renewables.

“The global market leader in engineered heavy-lifting and transport has been active in Australia since 1998 and has installed approximately 1.5GW of wind turbine power generation capacity.”

The companies started considering a partnership last year, with the contract being signed on September 13.

As a result of the deal, Mammoet has added two new LG1750-SX cranes to its Australian crane fleet and will make further investments in all-terrain support cranes, trucks, trailers and auxiliary equipment.

The deal’s value was not disclosed.
