Expressions of Interest are now being invited to deliver two major sections of Melbourne Airport Rail, including a new section of elevated rail line and a train station at the airport.

The Airport Package includes construction of the new Airport Station, which will have turn-up-and-go services every 10 minutes for passengers travelling in either direction.

The station also aims to accommodate the future construction of Suburban Rail Loop, which will ultimately connect Melbourne Airport with Broadmeadows in the north and beyond.

Detailed discussions are currently underway with key stakeholders – including the airport owners – to come up with the best design.

The Viaduct Package includes a new section of elevated rail up to six kilometre long, beginning with a rail bridge over the Western Ring Road (M80) from the Albion-Jacana corridor and continuing along Airport Drive.

The elevated design aims to minimise disruption for commuters and businesses in what is a busy industrial area.

Construction on Melbourne Airport Rail is set to start in 2022, subject to planning and environmental approvals.

When complete, people will be able to travel from the airport by train to wherever they need to go across Melbourne and regional Victoria.
