The search for a builder to deliver the $1.5 billion Footscray Hospital has begun, with the Victorian Government opening an Expressions of Interest (EOI) period.
The State Government is seeking a partner for the design, construction, finance and maintenance of the flagship project.
It will feature 504 beds and will be built next to Victoria University’s Footscray Park Campus, replacing the current hospital that was built in the 1950s.
Up to 2000 jobs will be created during the construction and operating phases of the new hospital, which is set to open in 2025.
The Footscray Hospital aims to allow almost 15,000 additional patients be treated and allow for 20,000 additional patients to be seen at the emergency department each year.

It is part of the Victorian Government’s $3.8 billion pipeline of hospital projects and will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership.
Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos said locals in Melbourne’s west will sit on a Community Consultative Committee to ensure the community has a say in the project.
“This is a significant step forward for the Footscray Hospital. We’re getting on with the job of finding the right builder to get the project done – and we’re not wasting a moment,” Mikakos said.
“This bigger and better hospital will give Footscray’s hardworking nurses and doctors what they need to do what they do best, care for local families who need their help.”
The Community Consultative Committee will be chaired by Member for Footscray Katie Hall.
“It’s essential the community has a big say over the future of Footscray Hospital,” Hall said.
“We’re making sure locals and health experts tell us what matters to them.”
