The Link Alliance, a joint venture between Downer and other major construction companies have been selected as the preferred bidder for the Auckland City Rail link C3 alliance contract.
The Link Alliance comprises of Downer, Vinci Grands Projects, Soletanche Bachy, AECOM, Tonkin + Taylor, and WSP Opus.
The C3 contract will involve the construction of two new railway stations near Aotea Square and Karangahape road, two major hotspots in Auckland Central. It will also include the redevelopment of the railway station at Mount Eden and the construction of the tunnels connecting them.
The Karangahape Road and Aotea Square stations will both be underground and will be designed to carry nine car trains to meet the transport needs of the growing city.

Downer Chief Executive Officer Grant Fenn said the Link Alliance would deliver C3 for this landmark project under an alliance contract model which shares the construction risk across all the parties.
“We look forward to working closely with our joint venture partners and City Rail Link Limited to deliver important infrastructure that will improve connections across Auckland for many years to come,” Fenn said.
Seperate to the C3 part of the project, Downer is also the preferred supplier to maintain three stations which are part of the Auckland City Rail Link project for up to 30 years.
Downer’s total share of the work on the project is expected to exceed nearly $1 billion (AUD) of revenue from the construction and maintenance contracts underway or planned.
