Contractors have been invited to submit a Request for Proposal to deliver METRONET’s Lakelands Station, as part of the Western Australian Government’s early contract involvement process.
It aims to find an appropriate contractor to design and construct the new station, including a bus interchange and car park.
Lakelands Station will be built between Warnbro and Mandurah stations. The station is part of the WA Government’s plan to ease congestion and address the growing demand for public transport in Perth’s southern suburbs.
The Mandurah and Warnbro stations are 23 kilometres apart. The construction of Lakelands Station aims to reduce the need for commuters to travel significant distance to access train services.
Construction will take place off Lake Valley Drive. It will include two platforms, park and ride or drop off facilities, a bus interchange and cycling facilities.

When the expression of interest period is over, two proponents will be chosen to create a more detailed submission.
WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said this is an important step in making the Lakelands Station project a reality, delivering better access to METRONET for local residents.
“The station will take pressure off the nearby existing stations, and provide commuters with access to bus services and lockable cycling facilities,” she said.
The project is jointly funded with the Federal Government committing 80 per cent and the Western Australian Government making up the rest.
Construction is expected to start in early 2021 with an operational station by 2023.
