The contract to build a $37.5 million aged care facility in Dunsborough, Western Australia, has been awarded, with construction expected to start within the next few weeks.
Capecare Dunsborough awarded Perkins Builders the contract, which will comprise of an 80-bed residential care facility for people with high physical needs in a dementia enabling-environment, 21 independent living apartments, new premises for the Dunsborough Country Women’s Association, a playground, café and landscaped gardens.
The facility was designed by Gary Batt & Associates Architects, in consultation with de Fiddes Design.
More than 530 construction jobs are expected to be created by the project, with around 60 people to be employed full time over the course of the project development.
Capecare CEO Stephen Carmody said this was a significant milestone for the long-awaited project.

“The need for an aged care facility in Dunsborough has been discussed for more than 30 years, so to reach this point of awarding the building contract for Capecare Dunsborough is extremely exciting,” he said.
“Perkins Builders provided a comprehensive and detailed tender that satisfied our requirements, our board and funding partners.
“They are a long-standing West Australian builder, with a great capacity to source local construction trades and workers, and we look forward to seeing this project through with them,” he said.
Perkins Builders’ Managing Director Dan Perkins said that the company was honoured to be chosen as the construction partner to deliver the new Capecare Dunsborough.

Member for Forrest Nola Marino said she was pleased to see the Federal Government’s $7.1 million investment in the project put to good use.
“I am pleased to hear that a local building company in Perkins Builders has been awarded the contract for this important project,” she said.
“I strongly believe that local procurement is vital for projects in the South West to boost local jobs and the economy.
“I have been a strong supporter of this project given how important it is for the people of Dunsborough and the broader South West.”
The project is set for completion in mid-2021.
