Builder picked for Port Hedland International Airport upgrade

The Builder of Choice has been selected to redevelop the Port Hedland International Airport terminal building, Western Australia.

The Builder of Choice has been selected to redevelop the Port Hedland International Airport terminal building, Western Australia.

ADCO was selected for the position and has entered into an early contractor involvement agreement with the Port Hedland International Airport.

It will construct the $30 million project, designed by architects Woods Bagot. The terminal will be around 800 square metres larger than the existing facility and aims to provide a modern and welcoming interior.

Functionality improvements and new developments in terminal design have been included in the Port Hedland International Airport’s upgrade to provide commuters with a safer, updated facility. Flexibility, sustainability and future growth were the key considerations for the design.

Future use of the terminal is expected to rise from the current 400,000 passengers passing through annually, with growth expected from the 50 commercial flights per week direct to Bali, Brisbane and Perth.

Completion on the project is expected in the second quarter of 2021, with construction to be undertaken in a live environment.
