Broad Construction wins WA prison expansion contract

A Queensland company has been selected to redevelop a former heritage rail station into a mixed-use urban precinct.

Broad Construction has won a contract to expand the Casuarina maximum security prison, located to the south of Perth.

Works will include the construction of a high security unit, two mainstream accommodation units, as well as support and industries buildings.

Broad Construction is a wholly owned subsidiary of CPB Contractors and is part of the CIMIC Group.

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Juan Santamaria said supporting essential infrastructure – be it expressways or correctional facilities – is a core capability for CIMIC.

CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said Broad has experience in delivering essential community facilities like schools, hospitals and prisons.

“Our team will work closely with the Department of Justice, and particularly WA Corrective Services, to ensure that this important project is delivered safely while also maximising local employment opportunities,” Spears said.

Works are already underway and are scheduled for completion in 2022.
