The Palaszczuk Government welcomed the release of Building Queensland’s second Infrastructure Pipeline Report, an independent analysis of Queensland’s priority infrastructure projects.
In an exclusive interview with Inside Construction, Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning Jackie Trad said the release of the second Infrastructure Pipeline Report demonstrated the ongoing commitment to transparency and efficiency in infrastructure delivery.
“The Building Queensland pipeline gives industry confidence that the State Government is investing in the vital infrastructure projects that Queensland needs. We have already committed funding to five projects [including the Cross River Rail, vital M1 upgrades and the European Train Control System] from the first Building Queensland pipeline and we are in discussions with the Commonwealth around further funding.”
“These projects are critical for Queensland and for our construction industry because these are the large-scale projects that will be delivering jobs for years to come,” said Trad.
“The Pipeline means that the industry can have faith that state governments now and for years to come will make transparent decisions about our major infrastructure projects, and that they won’t be based on political whims.”
Trad says this update to the Pipeline affirms the need for the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade Project, a major priority for the Sunshine Coast community which will provide a more integrated and effective transport system and improve connectivity in South East Queensland.”
An additional 19 proposals have been recommended in the Pipeline for further development including upgrades for the Port of Townsville, a new correctional precinct for Southern Queensland and a number of road and dam upgrades.
“Building Queensland will undertake a thorough analysis of these projects and they will be further considered in subsequent updates,” said Trad.
“We are committed to following proper process and ensuring infrastructure development and prioritisation is done properly, for the benefit of all Queenslanders.”
“It is essential that we are investing in projects that will both sustain the construction industry and create a lasting legacy for local communities throughout the state.”
