New leadership and new honours for AIQS

The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) has entered a new chapter, appointing Dr James Cameron as chief executive officer and launching a national awards program to celebrate excellence across the built environment.

Cameron commenced in the role in September 2025 following the retirement of Grant Warner. He brings extensive leadership and advocacy experience within Australia’s construction industry, with a strong track record in policy development, research, stakeholder engagement and strategic management. He previously served as executive director of the Australian Construction Industry Forum (ACIF) for eight years, and earlier held senior policy and advocacy positions with the Australian Institute of Building and the Australian Automobile Association.

AIQS has also unveiled the Built Environment Awards, a new initiative recognising excellence in time, cost, quality, innovation, sustainability and diversity across the property and construction sectors.

Through nine categories, the program highlights outstanding projects, people and organisations shaping the built environment. Each award category is named in honour of its sponsor:

  • RIB Outstanding Project Award
  • Outstanding Regional Project Award
  • CPB Contractors Sustainable Project Award
  • Swinburne University of Technology Project Innovation Award
  • RLB Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award
  • Wilde and Woollard Excellence in Cost and Commercial Management Award
  • Emerging Professional Award
  • RIB Individual Excellence in Quantity Surveying Award
  • PCMG Quantity Surveying Advocacy Award

Nominations are free and open until 15 December 2025.
