The first of seven escalators have been installed at Sydney Metro’s Waterloo Station, as works continue on the rail project.

There will be seven escalators at Waterloo Station– three escalators operate between the street level entrances and the concourse level, and four between the concourse level and platform level of the station.

The escalators are up to 41 metres long, with each assembled escalator weighing between 14 tonnes and 23 tonnes.

They link the street level with the underground concourse then the platforms, taking customers 24 metres underground where a new metro train will run every four minutes in the peak.

In 2018, Sydney Metro made Australia’s biggest-ever purchase of lifts and escalators on the Sydney Metro City & Southwest – a combined 200 lifts and escalators.
