Multiplex has completed construction of Monash University’s $54.2 million performing arts centre.
Located at Monash University’s Clayton campus, the Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts upgrade comprised of three key venues, including full refurbishment and repurposing of the existing Alexander Theatre, a new flat floor multipurpose Sound Gallery and a new live performance Jazz Club.
Designed by Peter Elliot Architects, Irwinconsult, Marshall Day Acoustics, Marshall Day Entertech and AECOM, the Alexander Theatre refurbishment involved a new façade, new services and finishes, a Serapid orchestra pit lift and extensive landscaping around the precinct.
It features new theatre technology, such as a 38-line power automated stage flying system and a Meyer Sound Constellation active acoustic system.

Work began on the project in October 2016 and involved around 250 people working on site throughout construction.
Multiplex Victoria Regional Managing Director Graham Cottam said the company was thrilled to deliver the innovative performing arts complex.
“This represents our sixth project for Monash University and combined our skills in delivering highly specified entertainment venues with our experience in working in busy, live education environments,” Cottam said.
Multiplex has recently also completed a $206 million Learning and Teaching Building at Monash University, which is a cornerstone project at the university.
