Eight planned schools open community consultation for design

Tasmania has recorded the highest number of monthly dwelling approvals in a decade, with 369 being reported, which is expected to continue according to the state government.

Community consultations underway in some of Victoria’s fastest growing communities for eight new schools set to open in 2022.

Victorian Education Minister James Merlino opened community consultation to inform the designs of Bridge Road (Melton) Primary School, Gisborne South Primary School, Grasslands Primary School, Kalkallo Common Primary School, Wollert East Primary School, Clyde North Secondary College, Clyde North Primary School and Greenvale Secondary School.

Community members are able to share their ideas, local knowledge and what matters to them for each school’s design through an online portal.

The schools are currently known by their interim names and aim to cater for diverse needs.

Feedback from the community consultations will help architects plan their designs.

“Schools are more than just buildings – they are at the heart of their neighbourhoods and these new schools provide an opportunity to shape and enhance local communities,” Merlino said.

“The new schools will give more families access to a great local school with first-rate facilities, meaning their kids can get the education they need to thrive.”

The Victorian Government has invested $6.1 billion to deliver 100 new schools by 2026 and complete more than 1400 school upgrades. This investment is expected to support more than 7500 construction jobs.

Consultations will run until Saturday 16 February.
