An alliance has been selected as the preferred contractor for two of Perth’s METRONET projects, the Yanchep Rail Extension and Thornlie-Cockburn Link.
NEWest Alliance, made up of CPB Contractors and Downer EDI, will work closely with the Public Transport Authority to progress the design and construction schedule, with the contract to be signed next month.
The projects are expected to create 3000 jobs and aim to give residents of Perth’s northern and eastern suburbs greater access to employment, training, entertainment and recreation hubs.
The Yanchep Rail Extension will add 14.5 kilometres to the Joondalup Line, with stations to be built at Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep. Early works are underway, with construction set to begin in 2020 and the first trains expected to run in 2022.
The Thornlie-Cockburn Link aims to close a 14.5 kilometres gap in the eastern rail corridor and link communities between the Mandurah and Armadale lines. Stations will be built at Ranford Road and Nicholson Road in Canning Vale, with significant upgrades planned for Thornlie and Cockburn Central stations.
