The ribbon has been cut on a $130 million hotel located at Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne, the first five-star hotel built outside the city’s CBD.

It was opened by John Gandel AC, Victorian Suburban Development Minister Marlene Kairouz, and Vicinity Centres CEO and Managing Director Grant Kelley.

More than 1200 jobs were created during the construction of the 250-room hotel, which is around 19,000 square metres in size, spanning 12 storeys.

It was constructed by the Hickory Group over 18 month and aims to be the first five-star Australian hotel to receive 5 Star Green Star Design & As Built rating.

A connection between the shopping centre, Tower One offices and the hotel was also built as part of the project, along with 100 designated, secure car spaces underneath the hotel.

“Hotel Chadstone elevates Chadstone’s iconic position as one of the world’s best lifestyle destinations, bringing together retail, dining, entertainment, tourism, business and now accommodation,” Kelly said.

The new five-star hotel is another important addition to Vicinity’s portfolio of mixed-use assets and reinforces the capability of our team to deliver mixed-use projects, ensuring we continue to exceed our customers’ expectations.”

Kairouz said the project was a $130 million vote of confidence in Melbourne and the inner south-east, which will help provide jobs and create opportunities for locals.

“Across Melbourne, we’re getting on with making our suburbs even better places to live, work and play,” Kairouz said.
