Refurbishment works begin on QGC headquarters

Demolition works have begun to help reshape the Shell-owned QGC business headquarters in Brisbane as it undergoes a major design upgrade.

QGC currently resides in the 30-storey tower at 275 George Street and has signed a new 10-year lease for 9107 square metres across seven floors.The company plans to consolidate almost 800 of its staff into the new space.

Turner & Townsend was appointed to deliver project and cost management services for the upgrade, which will be delivered by Buildcorp.

“Global architectural and design firm Gensler, has designed a flexible, open style office to suit the evolving needs of the company. They needed a modern approach to a new office,” Turner & Townsend Project Director, Francisco Smout, said.

Levels of the building will be themed, with a focus on local and regional stories. Each floor aims to express a distinct part of the company’s story.

For example, level 30 will be where the main reception and meeting spaces will be located, and its design is inspired by the communities in which the company operates.

“We were inspired by the client’s incredible variety of projects, the diversity of its people and the team’s desire to bring some elements of Queensland culture and lifestyle into the design,” Gensler’s lead designer, Josephine Than, said.

Buildcorp’s Queensland State Manager, Michael Sutcliffe, said the company is proud to have been chosen to deliver the new workplace, currently one of the largest fit-outs in Brisbane.

“Workplace transformations are where our collaborative culture and industry leading systems really come to the fore.”
