The first stage of the $9.5 million Central Queensland (CQ) Inland Port rail and road upgrade is nearing completion.

The first stage of the $9.5 million Central Queensland (CQ) Inland Port rail and road upgrade is nearing completion.

Located at Yamala, 25 kilometres east of Emerald in Central Queensland, the inland port is designed to handle the transfer of freight form one transport mode to another.

This includes an $18.5 million Graincorp bulk grain handling facility, an intermodal and container terminal, a new road interchange and 1.6 kilometres of rail siding.

The project aims to allow the movement of significant amounts of commodities through a road to rail intermodal and bulk commodity facilities, connecting to the major ports in Brisbane, Gladstone, Mackay and Townsville.

It will also provide the infrastructure required for the movement of bulk and containerised freight and enable more efficient freight transport.
