May 2019 sees Jim Whittle celebrate 25 years of ownership of West-Trans Equipment. It started out as a general engineering and tipper body shop, has evolved under his leadership to become Australia’s foremost manufacturer of specialist skip loaders and hook lifts optimised for the Australian market.
Jim and his father acquired a small business with nine employees in Mulgrave in the NSW Hawkesbury region, and through talking to customers, focus on good engineering principles, and a belief in quality and local manufacturing, has created a business and product to be proud of. In 2009 Jim added the premium quality HMF Truck Mounted Crane brand to the company offer, and more recently West-Transcover tarping systems.
Now employing more than 70 staff, in 3 factories at the Mulgrave NSW base, and service and sales offices in Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland, West-Trans Equipment is perfectly placed to continue to meet or exceed customer expectations for many years into the future. Indeed the next generation has joined the business, with Jim’s son Nick in an entry level role, learning the trade and the business from the bottom up.
Customers choose West-Trans machines because of their durability, and serviceability. Being locally built, of course all the parts are available, even for older machines, where parts are built from archived drawings. Any of the bought in components are supplied by premium quality local suppliers, so whether you’re in Darwin, Perth, Cairns, Hobart or anywhere in-between, you can have your West-Trans loader back working fast.
Come and see us at the Brisbane Truck Show, where we hope to show you what makes our equipment so reliable, and durable. Have a look under the paint, and beneath the skin and see what makes West-Trans skip and hook loaders Australia’s toughest.
