Yanchep rail extension on track for construction stage

Yanchep rail extension on track for construction stage

With construction due to start late in 2019, the 14.5km Metronet project will include three train stations, parking, road connections and dual use path.

“Infrastructure Australia’s decision to accept the project for evaluation was an exciting milestone as the state government sought Commonwealth funding for it and the Thornlie-Cockburn link,” said Metronet spokesman David Hynes.

“While the Public Transport Authority (PTA) did not provide the expected completion date, the project was on track for construction to start in 2019.

“An alliance tender to deliver the main construction works will be released in the coming months.

“This alliance contract will develop the final design for the stations and rail alignment, in consultation with key stakeholders.”

Two information sessions were held in Yanchep and Alkimos last month and saw more than 240 people attend, which Hynes believes shows strong support for the project amongst members of the community.

“Support for the project was strong, with the major topics of discussion being about parking and the bus feeder network,” Hynes adds.

“Further information sessions will be held over the coming years as the project moves from planning into construction.

“During the project delivery a community advisory group will be formed, made up of local residents with an interest in this important project.

“PTA and Metronet would work with local government, Main Roads WA, and developers regarding construction of nearby roads.”

The Alkimos and Eglinton stations will be within zone five and have the same fare rate as Butler, while the Yanchep station will fall within the sixth zone.
