FDC Construction & Fitout (FDC) has signed a multi-year enterprise deal with Australian startup Simpel to enhance productivity and efficiency across its national project portfolio. As one of Australia’s largest privately owned construction companies, FDC is recognised for delivering high-quality projects across various industries.
This partnership originated from a successful initial project, leading to widespread adoption by site teams within the organisation. FDC’s progressive integration of Simpel into its operations allowed the company to showcase positive outcomes, including time and cost savings, before committing to the enterprise deal, while establishing effective change management processes that extended to its subcontractor network.
The broader rollout of Simpel’s software and Internet of Things (IoT) hardware will enable FDC to consistently leverage reliable data across all projects, driving productivity and reinforcing its reputation for excellence in quality and safety.
Andrew Smith, national HSEQ systems manager at FDC, stated that the consolidation of the company’s management systems, combined with Simpel’s functionality, has streamlined project operations, allowing teams to focus on delivering quality projects safely.
“Our partnership expansion with Simpel underscores our commitment to industry-leading innovation in construction practices,” said Smith.
About Simpel
Established in 2018 by Australian founders and owners, Simpel has quickly gained a strong foothold in the industry, counting many of Australia’s largest developers and contractors among its clients. Led by CEO and co-founder Kurt Robinson, alongside technical co-founders Peter Ciceran and Jeremy Cox, Simpel’s appeal lies in the comprehensive functionality of its centralised platform throughout a project’s lifecycle.
This extensive functionality has contributed to the rapid uptake by clients like FDC. Together with Simpel’s proprietary plug-and-play IoT site access systems, the software is utilised on everything from fitouts to residential apartments, hospitals, data centres and infrastructure projects.
Kurt Robinson expressed excitement over FDC’s selection of Simpel: “FDC is known for its safety-first culture and delivering superior built outcomes. For Simpel to be selected as the construction management platform to deliver their billion-dollar development annual pipeline is an exciting stage for our business.”
The growing ConTech market
Amidst the backdrop of $14 trillion in global construction expenditure, Australia contributes around $460 billion. Despite its size, the Australian construction industry is an outperformer globally, embracing construction technologies and supporting the vibrant startup ecosystem that has rapidly evolved to service the sector.
FDC’s selection of Simpel from a competitive global marketplace is a testament to the breadth of innovation, agility and platform maturity available within the Australian construction technology ecosystem.
“FDC and other industry leaders are increasingly requiring a balance of practical innovation, together with platform scalability and the growing need to leverage data and AI in the future,” said Robinson.
