Gamuda Land breaks ground on $90 million Fareham project

Construction has commenced on Gamuda Land’s $90 million Fareham project in St Kilda, Victoria, following the appointment of family-owned builder Markscon.

Fareham aims to set a new standard for sustainable apartment living in the area and bolster Melbourne’s housing market by delivering 73 apartments. Additionally, it will stimulate the local economy by creating 130 jobs throughout the project’s duration.

Designed by architects BayleyWard, Fareham is targeting a minimum 7.5 Star NatHERS rating and will be powered by an embedded network providing 100 per cent renewable energy, including rooftop solar photovoltaic panels. It will also feature electric vehicle charging capabilities, secure bike parks and an onsite bicycle workshop to encourage residents to opt for greener travel arrangements.

Reaching 16 storeys high, Fareham will comprise a maximum of six apartments per floor, with the majority boasting bay views. Residents will have access to a communal garden on level one, a wellbeing room on level two and a communal rooftop on level 15.

Gamuda Land’s global ethos of building in harmony with nature is threaded throughout Fareham’s design, with the development to feature extensive landscaping and greenery by Loci Design Collection.

Jarrod Tai, general manager at Gamuda Land, cited Markscon’s stellar track record and capability to self-perform construction of critical elements as reasons for its selection to deliver the project.

“Markscon has helped deliver some of Melbourne’s most boundary-pushing projects, including two Nightingale projects,” said Tai. “Both Markscon and Gamuda share a vision of creating meaningful and sustainable urban environments.”

The City of Port Phillip showed its support for the project during the groundbreaking celebration on 24 May 2024, with councillors Marcus Pearl, Peter Martin and Christina Sirakoff attending on behalf of the Mayor of the City of Phillip.

Fareham is due for completion in 2026, with limited residences still available, priced from $600,000 to $4 million.
